Research shows that people who spend more time giving thanks or being thankful for the blessing in their lives tend to report greater levels of happiness and life satisfaction. Regardless of what you lack, counting what you have as a motivation to be thankful for, and verbalizing it, increases the level of serotonin (mood enhancing neurotransmitter) and makes the left side of your brain (responsible for positive emotions) to light up on brain scanners. What is even more impacting is that an attitude of thankfulness has a direct influence on you immune system, making you more apt to fight viruses and outside pathogens. Finally, giving thanks increases connectedness and group/family morality.
